What is E waste recycling service?

E-waste is known as electronic waste. E-waste recycling service is the demanding process of recovering material from old devices to use in new products. Some of the common E-wastes such as home appliances like televisions, air conditioners, electric cookers and heaters, air condoners, fans, DVDs, Radios and microwaves computers, mobile phones, laptops, batteries, etc. Without this process most electronic waste is thrown to a landfill which releases materials such as lead, mercury, or cadmium into the soil, groundwater, and atmosphere, and creates a negative impact on the environment. Recycling of e-waste is a growing trend and was initiated to protect human and environmental health mainly due to the widespread environmental pollution impacts of e-waste. Many materials used in computer hardware can be recovered by recycling for use in future production.

General process is followed in E-waste recycling:

·        Picking Shed: At the recycling plants all the items are sorted manually and batteries are removed for quality check.
·        Disassembly: After sorting the items are manual dismantled. The dismantled items are then separated into various categories and kept for recycling processes.
·        First size reduction process: Items that cannot be dismantled efficiently are shredded together with the other dismantled parts to reduce the size.
·        Second size reduction process:
·        After the first size reduction process the finer e-waste particles are then then broken down further.
·        Over-band Magnet: In this step, over-band magnet is used to remove all the magnetic materials including steel and iron from the e-waste debris.
·        Non-metallic and metallic components separation: In this recycling service the important part is the separation of metals and non-metallic components. Copper, aluminum, and brass are separated from the debris to only leave behind non-metallic materials.
·        Water Separation: In this last step, plastic content is separated from glass by use of water. One separated, all the materials retrieved can then be resold as raw materials for re-use.

Virogreen e-Waste Authorization Plan in India

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) makes it obligatory for every producer of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) for channelization of e-waste to an authorized dismantler or recycler to ensure environmentally sound management of such waste. EPR authorization is mandatory to be obtained by all the producers including importers, e-retailers, on-line sellers, e-bay etc. of EEE covered in E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016.

EPR provides the required funding for the safe and careful management of the products at their end-of-life so that they can be stayed away from our land fills and waterways. The same hazardous or discarded materials can also be reused or recycled, thereby safeguarding our natural resources.

A producer can implement its EPR either by take-back system or by setting up collection centers or both for channelization of e-waste/end of life products to authorized dismantlers or recyclers. The producers have to have arrangements with e-waste authorization dismantlers or recyclers either individually or collectively or through a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) as directed under their EPR Plan which is approved or authorized by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The EPR Plan under the protocol of EPR Authorization outlines the compressive estimation of the e-waste generation by the company and target projection for achieving the e-waste sanitization under a stipulated period through proper mechanisms.

Importers, manufactures and producers, even the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of electrical and electronic equipments can contact Virogreen for complete takeover of operations as required under EPR protocol.
We provide complete solutions to our enterprise level clients starting from the planning, implementation, and target achievement of EPR to filling of the return of compliance with the regulatory authority.

EPR e-Waste at Virogreen India

e--Waste Problem

With advent of gadget and IT revolution, companies are guided by the market demand to produce newer consumer products and newer equipment, which has made e-waste the fastest growing category of waste in many countries.

The environmental problems arising out of e-Waste disposal are three fold. First, e-waste covers a significant amount of space in already crowded landfills and stays intact for years. E-Wastes are not biodegradable.  Second, simply discarding e-waste can emerge as a waste of huge resources that can be reused. Thirdly, discarded computers, mobile phones, gadgets and other equipment contain many toxic materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, brominated flame retardants etc. These materials have hazardous impact on individual health as well as environment.

Emergence of e-Waste Recycling

Beside environmental and health benefits of diverting e-Waste from our landfills and waterways, the potential business benefits of EPR are significant.  Simply by disposing of the discarded computers, mobile phones and electronic equipments, it can turn out to be huge loss of resources. But finding the ways to recycle those e-Wastes for reuse is a hug benefit.

EPR e-Waste

The practice of EPR e-Waste is growing up, specifically in IT industry. More and more number of companies are serious about their responsibility for the environmental impacts of the products they manufacture, supply and export or import-- from point of manufacturing through to end of the life recycling.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy ensures that the producers of the products of a country, designated under provincial regulations are given a significant responsibility whether that is financial or physical for the treatment and disposal of waste generated by them. It allocates required funding for the safe and careful management of the waste products at their end-of-life, preventing the waste materials from going into our landfills and waterways.

At Virogreen, We provide complete solutions to our clients starting from the planning, implementation, and target achievement of EPR to filling of the return of compliance with the regulatory authority.

in Bangalore

E-waste is the 5th largest generator of e-waste in the world and Bangalore is the 3rd largest generator of e-waste in the country, producing close to 100,000 tons of e-waste annually which is likely to grow by 500% by 2020.  Currently, the total e-Waste so generated, 90% of them go to informal sector for recycling having serious repercussions on human health and the environment.

The informal sector provides e-Waste solutions in small-scale with limited facilities and equipment to take care of the hazardous elements like lead, mercury, cadmium etc. present in the e-waste.  E-waste has got some REE (rare earth elements) which need to be extracted and recycled efficiently through well-equipped facilities.

At Virogreen, as one of the leading computer waste disposal in Bangalore, we take great pride in offering sustainable e-Waste management solutions, guided my latest technologies. EPR Authorization and EPR Plan at Virogreen

EPR stands for Extended Producer Responsibility which binds the producer of any electrical or electronic equipment for safe and careful management of e-Waste so that our environment will remain safe.

EPR also consists of implementing the take back system or setting up collection centers or both or having agreed arrangements with EPR Authorization dismantler or recycler individually or collectively.

EPR Authorization

According to E-Waste Management Rules, 2016 authorizes CPCB to prepare and implement E-waste rules which provides specific guidelines for EPR, channelization, storage, collection centers and environmentally sound dismantling and recycling, refurbishment, and random sampling of EEE for testing of RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) parameters.

EPR authorization is obligatory for every producer of the electronic waste and has to be obtained according to E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016.

The producer of a product can implement its EPR by the take back system or by setting up the collection centers or both for channelization of e-waste or end of life products to authorized dismantlers or recyclers. As given in their EPR plan, the producers have to have collaborated with their authorized dismantlers or recyclers individually or collectively or through a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO).

Target based approached has been adopted in the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016 which states for phase wise collection of e-Waste by the producers, either in weight or number, ensuring 30% in the 1st and 2nd year, 40% in the 3rd and 4th year, 50% in 5th and 6th year and 70%  during the 7th year.
